Larry's "Roasting Notes"

Here are Larry's "Roasting Notes" on the coffees served and sold at Mother Earth Coffee!

Secret Espresso #17

(Used in all our Espresso drinks!)

Our pride and obsession. Our standards for this blend are so high, we literally travel the world every year to make sure the components are exactly as they should be. The roast profile is so ingrained in our roasters’ brains, they could draw it with their eyes closed.Comprised of coffees from around the world—including some super secret Larry’s Beans exclusives—the shots pulled from this blend are truly a tour de force. Rich, creamy, and brimming with notes of dark chocolate and toasted tobacco. A refreshingly tangy acidity balances with the full-bodied complexity, resolving to a finish that lingers sweetly before drifting away slowly, leaving you wanting another taste.

Mama Nile Ethiopia

(Our Daily House Brew and sold by the pound)

The birthplace of coffee, and indeed of humankind, Ethiopia has a reputation for producing some of the finest beans in the world. Our offering is a very clean washed coffee from just outside the town of Yirgacheffe. Intensely aromatic and super complex in the cup—it’s not uncommon to pick up the scent of flowers and flavors of lemon, cherries, caramelized apples, and rich chocolate.Bold and spicy-sweet with a brilliant and bright citrus acidity, our roast is light enough to allow all of the distinctive and classic characteristics of anEthiopian Yirgacheffe coffee to shine. The medium bodyis pleasant on the tongue, and the aftertaste is like a fine white wine.

Mountain Sumatra

(Sold by the pound)

Sumatran coffee has flavors that some find intense and huge on the palate. Those who love this coffee REALLY love this coffee. One of our most unique and most popular single origin offerings, this coffee is characterized by its striking earthy flavor and its rich, musky tones. A mellow acidity is accompanied by a full body swirling with complex sweetness. Our roast is just dark enough to bring out the deep caramel notes that intertwine with the slightly funky flavors that result from the coffee cherries’ wet hulling process. The finish is long and exquisitely sweet, an intriguing contrast with the rustic characteristics prevalent at the start of the cup.

Pure Guatemalan

(Sold by the pound)

Our partners in the farming cooperatives of Guatemala entered the fair trade coffee market in the final days and aftermath of the country’s long and brutal civil war. We were one of the first companies in the USA to import fair trade organic coffee from the Chajul region in western central Guatemala, and our relationship has paid excellent dividends in this quality coffee. It’s a bright and sweet coffee, with a snappy hint of coffee fruit in the cup, a wonderfully smooth medium body, and a deliciously chocolaty finish. Our roasting style on this one is firm yet gentle, guiding the coffee quickly to the point of sugar browning, but light enough to illuminate the luscious acidity so prized in Guatemalan coffees.

3 Moon Peru Decaf

(Our Daily Decaf Brew)

Our most popular single origin decaf. Deep, rich. A soft acidity leads to a long-lasting chocolaty finish. Water processed decaf means no chemical agent came into contact with your coffee while decaffeinating it.
This beguilingly smooth coffee’s most prominent characteristic is its rich and creamy body, which seems to swell with flavors of chocolate and vanilla. Wrapped within that smoothness, however, is an intriguing hint of earthy spiciness. A delicate, soft acidity tapers off to a sugary finish, making this coffee a perfect accompaniment to dessert.
